Cancer League of Colorado deserves our salute of thanks because in our present-day world of me, me, me, it is a truly unique organization as an all-volunteer fundraising group with no paid staff or offices.
Five women, whose families were affected by cancer and who had experienced the heartache and individual struggles that come with this terrible disease, founded this organization in 1969. These women met and personally resolved to raise money for local research projects and local patient care. This allows them the unique ability to donate all of the money they raise to Colorado cancer-service projects.
Since its first meeting 47 years ago, the organization has grown to more than 400 volunteers and has successfully raised and donated millions of dollars to support our local cancer-research efforts. In fact, this year’s dinner, held May 7, brought the yearly total to more than $1.2 million.
Ronald McDonald Charities has been Helping Families in Crisis for 36 Years
Being alone in the hospital can be a traumatic experience, especially for children. And more than ever before, children in need of emergency treatment are being brought to Denver from rural Colorado and bordering states for expert medical care.
For the past 36 years, Ronald McDonald House® Charities of Denver has offered a loving home away from home to families needing to be near their seriously ill or injured children while they're being treated at metropolitan area hospitals.
Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption (FOHRAA), is a 501 C 3 non-profit charitable organization located in Centennial, Colorado since 2001. FOHRAA is dedicated to rescuing good horses and adopting them to good homes, therapeutic riding and community service. With over 150 horses currently being cared for, FOHRAA is not a “typical” rescue”. We offer a full service riding facility, with indoor and outdoor arenas, therapeutic riding, riding lessons in all disciplines and at all levels, and access to Cherry Creek State Park for the more advanced riders. In addition to horse adoption, we also offer the option to lease a horse on a monthly basis and private boarding.
FOHRAA has a strong therapeutic riding program. Our gentle horses and experienced instructors provide equine-based activities for a variety of disabilities for children and adults.
